Udhayanidhi Stalin to DMK workers on doormat video: Stay calm, don’t react

Tamil Nadu Deputy Chief Minister Udhayanidhi Stalin urged his party members to remain calm and not react to a now-viral video showing people wiping their feet on a doormat bearing his image. The video, widely circulated on social media, triggered reactions among DMK supporters. However, Udhayanidhi called for restraint, stating that such actions are reflective of political immaturity.
“I feel sorry for these Sanghis who think they are insulting me. Their political immaturity stands exposed. If they are so angry, it only shows that I am on the right path, following the Dravidian principle,” he said in an X post.
Drawing parallels with past incidents, Udhayanidhi recalled how similar insults were directed at iconic Dravidian leaders. “They threw chappals at Periyar, insulted Anna and Karunanidhi. This frustration comes from their inability to win people over with their divisive ideologies based on birth and religion,” he added.
He also shared the viral video, from November 3, 2023, showing people walking over the mat, wiping their feet, and even stomping on his image on the mat. Udhayanidhi remarked: “Let them trample on my picture. If we can’t clean their dirty minds, at least their feet will be cleaned.”
Minister for School Education in Tamil Nadu Anbil Mahesh, reshared Udhayanidhi’s post, with the caption: “I belong to the Dravidian stock.”
